ABOUT

ASOO KHANMOHAMMADI

Asoo, an artist, photographer, writer, and stand-up performer, was born and raised in Iran in 1980 and now lives in Vienna since 2011 and worksunder the surname G’sindl. She completed her studies in Visual and Media Arts, specializing in Photography, at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna (2011-2019), and holds a B.A. in Photography (2004-2008) from Azad University in Tehran, Iran. Asoo has exhibited her photography in Tehran and across Europe in both group and solo exhibitions. Her work primarily focuses on the fringes of society, highlighting marginalized individuals and their traumatic experiences. Central themes in her work include gender politics and the role of women and the LGBTQ+ community in society. More recently, she has been captivated by the stories of women working at cash registers in Vienna during the pandemic, which have inspired her writing and performances.
